CMO covering Emergency Medicine at Grafton Base Hospital with flexibility to support urgent shift coverage and base Mon–Fri roster.

We are seeking passionate and dedicated doctor(s) to step into an Emergency Department Doctor PGY5+ role across Grafton Base Hospital and Maclean District Hospital. This is a Supernumerary position with additional leave cover responsibilities to be deployed for General Medicine Ward coverage or ED Support across the two hospitals.

Position Highlights:

• Base location: Grafton Base Hospital
• Hours: 1100hrs – 1930hrs, with flexibility to be deployed elsewhere as needed
• Dates: 22 December 2025 to 01 February 2026
• Roster: 8-hour shifts per day as rostered, with potential coverage support in any department – Emergency Department, General Medicine, Sub Acute and ICU
• Rate: $160 per hour + superannuation

• Grafton Base Hospital

Emergency Department:

• Bed Numbers: 10 beds
• Shift times:

o In-charge shifts: 0700 – 1730, 1400 – 2400, 2215 – 0815

o JMO shifts: 0700 – 1530, 1500 – 2330, 0000 – 0830 (shared with Gen Med)

o Fast Track shifts: 0730 – 1600; 1400 – 2230

o Swing shift: 1200 - 2030

• Staffing levels for each shift time: 4 staff minimum with cross over in afternoon and evening shift. 1 FACEM, 1 GP and 2 JMOs on day shift and evening shift, 1 CMO on evening shift, 1 Night JMO (shared with Gen Med)
• Support provided: Senior staff on each shift. Afternoon FACEM does on call from 0000-0700 daily
• Additional Information: Following handover at midnight, there is only one ED in-charge doctor until 0700; JMO support shared with Gen Med 0000-0800

General Medicine/ Wards:

• Bed Numbers: 23 beds
• Shift times: 0800-1630 Ward rounds. 0800- 0800 on-call
• Staffing levels for each shift time: 2 JMO, 7 days a week, 0730-1630
• Support provided: JMO on-site until 1630, 1 JMO on-site until 0030. The Physician is first on-call from 1630 daily. RMO on-site 1200- 2000
• Additional information: Hospital has a MET team managed by ICU and ED Snr Staff and Nurses and will attend all MET calls

ICU:

• Bed Numbers: 4 ICU beds + 4 HDU beds
• Shift time: 0700-0700
• Staffing levels for each shift time: 1 Intensivist
• Support provided: Intensivist on during day and on-call after hours. 1 Ward JMO/CMO 0800-2030 and overnight 2000-0830. Intensivist to be called if any issues
• Maclean District Hospital
• Bed Numbers: 3 acute beds, 2 sub-acute chairs, 1 resuscitation bay, 1 holding facility (Mental Health; ID patients), 1 consulting room

o In-charge shifts: 0700 – 1530, 1230 – 2200, 2130 – 0730

o JMO shifts: 0800 – 1630

o Additional information: Point of care testing (iStat) is available on-site for CHEM8+, CG4+, INR, BNP, Urine Drug Screen, Urine bHCG, Urinalysis
