About this role

GP VMO ED covering ED & Wards with onsite hours 07:00–20:00 and overnight on-call; sole doctor on call 24/7, must review all ED presentations in-person between 07:00 and 22:00 and Category 1–3 overnight, with VRGS covering Category 4–5 overnight; responsible for ward rounds, ED reviews, inpatients, documentation, meetings, and multidisciplinary care

Qualifications/Experience

  • Emergency, Trauma, Adult and Paediatric Support
  • Basic Life Support
  • Simple Suturing
  • ECG Interpretation
  • Catheterisation
  • Sound Clinical Judgement
  • Communicate appropriately
  • Medicare Provider number requirements: Full billing or refer and request billing rights acceptable
  • Must have completed eMeds training

Duties

  • Expectation that you review all cases in-person throughout the day.
  • Hours required to be on-site will be 8am ward rounds, followed by ED reviews etc - finish time to be negotiated with site.
  • Must return to the ED when requested by nursing staff at any time.
  • Complete discharge summaries and review admitted patients as requested.
  • Complete contemporaneous and comprehensive clinical documentation in all systems including discharges in eMR/eMeds.
  • Check pathology and radiology results in the ED results message centre ordered by any doctor, follow-up and document management plans for any results needed further action and review any patients returning for follow-up of results.
  • Participate in morbidity and mortality meetings, MDT meetings and other clinical meetings as requested.
  • Required to participate in Multidisciplinary Team Meeting on Monday morning at the Hospital.

On Call Requirements

  • You will be the sole Doctor on call 24/7.
  • You as the Locum Doctor will be called in for all triage categorie (1s to 5s) in-person between 0700 hrs and 2200 hrs.
  • Overnight from 2200 hrs until 0700 hrs the locum doctor will be required to review all Category 1, 2 and 3 ED Presentations in-person.
  • Overnight from 2200 hrs until 0700 hrs VRGS will cover Category 4 and 5 ED Presentations, however you will be required to attend if a clinician or the Registered Nurse calls you requesting your presence.
  • On-call the Locum Doctor will also be required at all times to attend inpatients that are deteriorating.
  • vCare are available in emergency situations (1800 492 227) to assist with support and escalation of a Patient within the facility that requires Emergency assistance, transfer to tertiary facility, advice from specialist teams, emergency birth assistance, Paediatric specialist care, Trauma and Burn specialist support.

Fatigue breaks

  • Fatigue breaks are available if Doctor has an emergency, busy night/day and is feeling fatigued, however this must be discussed prior to taking any break with the Health Service Manager or ‘In charge’. Support is available via VRGS to provide doctor fatigue break if required.

Self-contained room with Air conditioner/Heater, own bathroom, small kitchenette with basics, microwave, fridge etc.

Shared Kitchen and laundry area, double bed and linen provided.

  • For all Rural & Remote Sites in Western LHD the hospital cannot supply PBS/RPBS authority prescription forms, so we ask that the locum doctors bring these with them in case required.
