Tamworth Emergency Department is a 20-bed unit within the 282-bed Tamworth Hospital, the largest healthcare facility outside Sydney, Wollongong and Newcastle. It offers acute and fast-track care staffed by FACEMs on day and evening shifts, with overnight registrar cover and on-site surgical and medical teams. Radiology and pathology run 24 hours, with paper-based referrals and electronic results via the Clinical Applications Portal. Travel and accommodation provided. The principal tertiary referral centre is the 820-bed John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.
